On October 17, under the guidance of the Jiangsu University Undergraduate Student Party Committee and with support from the “Yiyou” Science and Innovation Workstation—a platform for Party building and ideological and political education—the School of Mechanical Engineering, in collaboration with Wenxin and Zhongling Colleges as well as the “Yiyou” Science and Innovation Counselor Studio, hosted a youth story-sharing event titled “Setting Sail in Autumn, Encountering the Future in Mechanical Engineering” in Lecture Halls 301 and 302. The event featured outstanding upperclassmen from the Class of 2023 who had secured direct admission to graduate programs at renowned domestic universities. They provided systematic explanations on key topics such as academic improvement, research competitions, the graduate admission process, and interview techniques. With detailed content and vivid case studies, their presentations offered valuable insights and inspiration to the attending students.

During the exchange and sharing session, outstanding senior students shared their insights based on the characteristics of engineering studies. Wang Zizhuo systematically broke down the entire process of applying for direct admission to graduate school, outlining career development paths and interview strategies; Yu Linjie advocated using “engineering thinking” to solve challenges in academics and research, encouraging students to seize opportunities and persevere; Wan Qing emphasized the importance of breaking down information barriers regarding graduate school admissions, proactively reaching out to faculty advisors, and expanding access to development resources; Chen Chengzhao clarified the relative weighting of academic performance, research experience, and foreign language proficiency, and provided a detailed explanation of time management and key points for refining application materials. The guest speakers shared practical experience from various perspectives, providing the students in attendance with a clear and comprehensive guide for the direct admission application process.

This “Youth Stories” sharing session represents an important practical initiative by the college to implement the requirements for one-stop student community education, deepen the cultivation of academic culture, and strengthen academic and career planning education for students. The event has established a platform for outstanding students to “share, assist, and mentor” one another, leveraging the guiding role of peers to foster an academic atmosphere characterized by diligence, critical thinking, mutual support, and shared progress. It has effectively addressed gaps in students’ access to information about further education, guided lower-year students in setting long-term development goals, and helped them develop sound academic plans.

Moving forward, the School of Mechanical Engineering will continue to strengthen its one-stop student community as an educational platform, regularly organize peer experience-sharing activities, establish a long-term “mentoring and support” mechanism for academic and post-graduation advancement, and continuously improve the student career development service system. The School will further integrate educational resources from both within and outside the university, establish a diverse information service platform, summarize and promote exemplary educational cases, and build a full-cycle, multi-tiered academic support system. These efforts will safeguard students’ growth and success, help young students chart their course, enable them to move steadily forward on their path toward higher education and their dreams, and help them write a brilliant chapter of their youth.
