On September 4th, the School of Mechanical Engineering held a Graduate School Analysis Meeting for the 2022 cohort in Room 3102 of the Jingjiang Building. The meeting was conducted by Zhang Liming, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the college, and was attended by all students of the 2022 cohort.
At the meeting, Zhang Liming first analyzed the current employment situation in various professions, leading to the discussion of "Why pursue graduate studies." She emphasized that enterprises are actively engaging in high-tech innovation and seeking unique breakthroughs in the market. Consequently, there is a growing demand for innovative talent, and the need for graduate students continues to rise, while graduates with only a bachelor's degree are facing increasingly severe challenges in the job market. The number of candidates for graduate school is expected to continue growing, and the employment pressure on undergraduates will also increase. Zhang encouraged students to enhance their learning abilities, work skills, and social competitiveness through graduate studies, and to carefully plan their academic paths to better adapt to society.
Subsequently, Zhang Liming provided a detailed analysis of comprehensive data on graduate school entrance examinations over the past three years, examining trends and particularly the growing challenges of entering 985 and 211 institutions. She stressed the importance of thoroughly researching the application and admission statistics of major universities before applying, to make more informed choices. She also recommended strengthening communication with advisors and improving the effectiveness of exam preparation comprehensively. Furthermore, she encouraged students to approach their studies with a rigorous attitude, to choose their target schools scientifically and rationally, and to face exam challenges with a positive mindset. Zhang particularly reminded students to plan early and lay a solid foundation for future career development. She suggested that students consider their own personality traits, values, abilities, and qualities when making decisions, weigh the dual options of graduate studies and employment, and firmly commit to their decision to pursue graduate studies. Finally, Zhang expressed the college’s strong emphasis on graduate student work, noting the college's robust faculty and increasingly improved research conditions, and encouraged students to apply to the college based on their individual situations, contributing to the college's prosperous development.
