Series of Research Activities for the "14th Five-Year Plan" for the Development of the Mechanical Engineering College - Symposium for Young Teachers

To ensure the successful conclusion of the implementation of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and scientifically formulate the blueprint for the "15th Five-Year Plan", the Mechanical Engineering College held a symposium for young teachers as part of the series of research activities for the "15th Five-Year Plan" in Conference Room A312 on July 5th. Professor Zhang Zhongqiang, Dean of the College, Professor Ye Yunxia and Professor Cheng Guanggui, Vice Deans, directors of various departments, and young backbone teachers gathered together. They conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as discipline construction, scientific research innovation, and talent cultivation for nearly 4 hours.

At the beginning of the symposium, Dean Zhang Zhongqiang systematically introduced the current situation and planning of the college's discipline development. He pointed out that in recent years, the college has taken the "Mechanical Engineering" discipline as the core, with the Instrument Science discipline and the Optical Engineering discipline as the two wings, forming characteristic and advantageous research directions and achieving fruitful results. Through the efforts of all teachers, during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the Mechanical Engineering discipline ranked 25th in China in the Soft Science Ranking. It has added 3 national-level teaching platforms and 4 provincial-level key laboratories, and has 8 national-level talents. Regarding the "15th Five-Year Plan", Professor Zhang Zhongqiang proposed to focus on the foundation and application of high-end equipment manufacturing, meet the major national needs and regional economic development, and make systematic plans for various work. He emphasized that discipline construction is the lifeline of the college's development, and young teachers are the core force for discipline upgrading. He hoped that everyone would base themselves on national strategic needs and achieve breakthroughs from following to leading in key fields.

Vice Dean Ye Yunxia reviewed the college's scientific research development in the first half of 2025. She conducted an in-depth analysis of the completion of indicators from aspects such as the application for vertical projects, scientific research awards, high-quality papers, and horizontal funds. She fully affirmed the achievements made in the first half of the year, pointed out the existing problems and the next improvement measures, and deployed the key work for the second half of the year in accordance with the annual tasks assigned by the university.

Subsequently, the participating teachers spoke one by one and put forward suggestions on the college's development, discipline development, and their own development. Regarding the issues of concern raised by young teachers, such as the balance between teaching and scientific research, the refinement of scientific research directions, and the application for industry-university-research projects, the college leaders and "senior teachers" answered questions for young teachers based on their own experiences, encouraged them to integrate into the team, and make plans as soon as possible. At the end of the symposium, Dean Zhang Zhongqiang summarized: "The college will continue to support the development of young teachers as always, and will build a platform for young teachers with a more open attitude and more practical measures, allowing the 'post-waves' to surge and the 'pre-waves' to escort, and jointly write a new glory in the development of the college's cause!"

This symposium marks the full launch of the research work for the "15th Five-Year Plan" of the Mechanical Engineering College. Guided by the strategy of "strengthening the college with disciplines, invigorating the college with scientific research, and establishing the college with talents", the college will consolidate consensus and gather strength to lay a solid foundation for building a research-oriented college.
