To fully implement and deepen the spirit of the Fifth Party Congress and to advance the school’s work on personnel evaluation and reform, the School of Mechanical Engineering organized a meeting for all faculty and staff on the afternoon of August 29, 2024, at the Qingjiao Apartment Conference Center. The meeting was chaired by Pan Hongjun, the Party Secretary of the School. Attendees included Wang Fei, Director of the Human Resources Department, Pan Yunlong, Head of the Personnel Section, members of the School’s leadership team, and all faculty and staff.
Director Wang Fei first fully acknowledged the achievements of the School of Mechanical Engineering in the areas of Party building, disciplines, teaching, and research during the first half of the year. On behalf of the Human Resources Department of the university, he provided a detailed interpretation of the series of documents related to personnel system reform. He pointed out that the evaluation and reform of personnel and talent in higher education institutions is an important measure for deepening comprehensive reforms in the education sector as outlined in the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, as well as for improving the talent evaluation system and deepening personnel system and mechanism reforms as emphasized in the Fifth Party Congress of the university. He stressed that the series of documents regarding personnel system reform directly relates to the vital interests of faculty and staff. Faculty members are encouraged to thoroughly comprehend the main spirit of the documents, adjust their business structure and allocation of energy according to their actual situations, and avoid creating personal negative lists, thus contributing to the revitalization of the university’s talent pool.
Secretary Pan Hongjun emphasized that the purpose of this meeting is to ensure that all faculty members fully understand and grasp the main content of the university’s personnel system reform documents. All faculty members are urged to pay close attention to the university’s work on talent evaluation and personnel reform, and to align their work with the requirements outlined in the documents. They should actively plan their roles, and successfully complete various assessments, including basic performance, position performance, and year-end performance.
Dean Zhang Zhongqiang delivered a summary speech on behalf of the School. He stated that the purpose of talent evaluation and assessment is to ensure that everyone is placed in a position that fully utilizes their abilities. He noted that assessments can be a double-edged sword, and all faculty members should grasp the overall direction of the evaluations, aligning their efforts with the specific requirements, and approach the assessments with a positive mindset and pragmatic attitude. He pointed out that the School of Mechanical Engineering achieved commendable results in the first half of the year in areas such as Party building, discipline and professional development, talent recruitment and training, research projects and platform construction, as well as academic publications, which is closely linked to the collective efforts of all faculty members. However, he acknowledged that there are still shortcomings in enhancing disciplinary connotations, refining concepts and characteristics, and in laboratory construction. He encouraged all faculty members to dedicate themselves to their work in the new semester with full enthusiasm, contributing to the high-quality development of the school’s endeavors.
