On May 10, 2024, the Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Automation program held a mid-term teaching symposium in room B510-1 of the Mechanical Building. The meeting was attended by the leadership teams of the Department of Mechanics and the Department of Mechanical Design, as well as over 20 student representatives from the mechanical program. The symposium was jointly hosted by Professor Dai Fengze, the head of the Department of Mechanics, and Professor Huang Juan, the head of the Department of Mechanical Design.
Director Dai Fengze first introduced the content and significance of the symposium, encouraging the participating students to speak freely on various topics, including learning, living, teaching management, course and program reform and development. This year marks the revision of the 2024 training plan, and he also hoped that senior students would provide suggestions on the arrangement and improvement of the professional courses. Subsequently, student representatives spoke one by one on aspects such as the training plan, course content, teaching methods, course assessment, experimental teaching, teacher-student relationships, academic competitions, and the construction of academic style. Faculty and students engaged in mutual Q&A and discussions on the issues raised. Finally, Director Huang Juan summarized the event, encouraging participating students to set an example to enhance academic style, and to communicate more with teachers about the strengths and problems currently existing in teaching, in order to jointly promote the development of the program and improve the quality of student training.
Through this symposium, communication between teachers and students was enhanced, allowing students to gain a better understanding of graduation requirements, training plans, course arrangements, and teaching assessments. At the same time, teachers gained deeper insights into students' learning conditions, the difficulties they encountered, and their requests regarding the training plan and course arrangements. After the meeting, the relevant personnel will summarize and reflect on the discussions, incorporating the feedback into the 2024 training plan. In particular, there will be an active promotion of project-based teaching, which received high praise from students, in order to effectively improve the teaching quality and the quality of student training in this program.
