In the midsummer month, a joyful gathering was held in Guangzhou. The China Materials Conference 2024 and the 2nd World Materials Conference took place at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center from July 8th to 11th. A team of six faculty and students from the School of Mechanical Engineering, led by Professor Lu Jinzhong, attended this prestigious event.
As a special guest, Professor Lu Jinzhong presented invited talks titled "Current Status, Challenges, and Development Trends of Laser Shock Peening Technology" at the E16-Advanced Materials Smart Forming and Processing session and "Research Progress in Laser Directed Energy Deposited Functionally Graded Materials" at the C18-Functionally Graded Materials (International) session. He engaged in valuable discussions and shared insights with experts and scholars on laser shock peening and additive manufacturing techniques for heterogeneous materials.
Young faculty member Xu Xiang presented a keynote report titled "Research on the Process and Performance of Ultra-high-speed Laser Deposition Manufacturing of High-performance Deposited Layers" at the E16-Advanced Materials Smart Forming and Processing session. Another young faculty member, Zhang Hongmei, gave a keynote talk on "Study on the Formation Mechanism and Mechanical Properties of Heterogeneous Microstructures in Dissimilar Alloys Fabricated by Laser Directed Energy Deposition" at the E07-Additive Manufacturing Materials session. Doctoral student Deng Weiwei delivered a keynote presentation entitled "Dual Skin Effect and Deep Plastic Deformation of Ti6Al4V Alloy Induced by High-frequency Electric Pulse Assisted Laser Shock Peening" at the E09-Materials Surface Engineering session.
"The China Materials Conference" is a national brand conference in China's new materials industry, known for its high academic level, wide range of fields covered, and cutting-edge updates. This year's conference featured 110 frontier sub-sessions, covering significant topics related to the innovation and development of new materials across all disciplines, fields, and industries. Nearly 100 academicians, over 2,000 outstanding young scientists, and more than 25,000 materials science and technology professionals attended the event. A new sub-session, "Advanced Materials Smart Forming and Processing," was established and hosted by Huazhong University of Science and Technology. This sub-session invited dozens of national-level talents to participate, fostering deep exchanges and discussions on new materials, forming and manufacturing, smart manufacturing, and other related areas. The sub-session facilitated valuable exchanges and cooperation among experts, scholars, and industry professionals in China's new materials and engineering manufacturing fields, allowing them to share the latest research achievements in materials and manufacturing and achieve mutual improvement and common progress.
This conference was not only a gathering for academic exchanges but also a crucial platform for promoting the development of new productive forces. Members of the team expressed that they had gained a lot from the event, gained a deeper understanding of cutting-edge research in new materials and engineering technology, and were committed to continuous improvement and innovation to contribute more to advancing the high-level development of their academic disciplines.
