Dr Guanggui Cheng, an Associate professor in Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering has been in Tulane University for a 12-month visit as a visiting scholar sponsored by Jiangsu Government Scholarship for Overseas Studies since Feb.9 2014. Tulane University, founded in 1834, is one of the most highly regarded and selective independent research universities in the United States The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, a select group of the 63 leading research universities in the United States and Canada with “preeminent programs of graduate and professional education and scholarly research.
He is now in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering doing some research about nanotribology. During his staying in U.S, he studied on the synthesis of nano particles which have potential applications in many fields, and the particles enhanced water-based lubricant. He together with the Ph D student in the lab successfully prepared several nano particles with the diameters in the range of 100 nm to 1.5 µm, the frictional properties are improved greatly by introducing them in friction test. Besides, he also has the chance to learn about the culture of America, the foreign teaching method, lab management and so on. He is expected to return China in Feb.2015.
