In the morning of April 24th, Professor Yao Jianquan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor of Tianjin University, was appointed as an adjunct professor of Jiangsu university. The ceremony was held at the Seminar Hall which is on the seventh floor of Mechanical College. Professor Chen Long, Vice President of Jiangsu University issued a letter of appointment and wore school emblem for Professor Yao. After the appointment ceremony, Academician Yao Jianquan made a wonderful report to teachers and students. The report was presided over by Professor Ren Naifei, the dean of School of Mechanical Engineering in Jiangsu University.
Academician Yao conducted a report entitled "a new round of scientific and technological revolution and our opportunities". This report starts from the research fields and key scientific and technological development strategy which are concerned by United States, China, Britain and other countries around the world and then introduces the latest developments, knowledge and trends about the world science and technology. It guides us to accurately grasp the current trends of the fifth scientific and technological revolution – intelligence, green and network. We need to establish innovative confidence and seize the "super opportunity" under current technological revolution and China's rejuvenation to implement the innovative development, providing a strong science and technology support to achieve the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation. Finally, Yao shared a poem ("standing on the tall, the voice goes far without the help of wind ") to teachers and students and encourage them to be self-reliant, to builf a solid foundation, to be more innovative and to do more specific, promising and valuable application researches.
Yao Jianquan, a famous laser and non-linear optical expert, got his master’s degree from Tianjin University and teaches in the University from 1965. Academician Yao currently is the deputy director of Science and Technology Commission of Ministry of Education, director of China Optical Society, deputy director of Internet of Things experts of China Electronics Society of Experts, and member of American Optical Society and SPIE. Academician Yao has won the second prize of national invention, second prize of the State Education Commission and the Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award (4 times),first prize of the military scientific and technological progress award, and the special prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Award, etc. He is a national young expert with outstanding contributions, an advanced technology worker in Chinese universities, special labor model in Tianjin, and enjoys the special allowance of the State Council. Academician Yao has been engaged in laser and terahertz research for a long time, making great contribution in the field of terahertz photon source, especially in the laser nonlinear difference frequency (DFG) and optical phase matching terahertz source, terahertz biology imaging and radar cross section detection. Yao developed high power frequency doubling laser theory, invents the precise phase calculation of the best phase matching of biaxial crystals, which is known as Yao technology or Yao method and is as widely used worldwide. In addition, he also conducted a great deal of researches on the control of terahertz with a variety of new materials and micro-nanostructured materials.
