Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering
Department of Optic Information Science & Technology (DOIST) was founded in May 2003. Prior to the establishment of the department, laser processing technology has been relatively well developed in SME. On this basis, this department was established according to the needs of disciplinary development. Now the department has 9 faculties, about 250 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students. We have four professional laboratories, and the experimental equipments can provide services for teaching and research activities. Training goal of the department is to educate students with a solid foundation of mathematics and physics, mastering the basic theory and basic experimental skills in optics, and we expect that a qualified graduate can take up the work in scientific research, product development, organizational management, teaching and other work in the relevant fields, such as laser technology, information technology, optical engineering, optical testing, optical device manufacturing and image processing.

Characteristic
In the Department of Optic Information Science & Technology, nearly 90% of teachers are young teachers under 40 years old, so we are not only physically energetic, but also have active thinking. We are good at learning advanced teaching methods, willing to accept good educational ideas, and excel in grasping the frontier knowledge in this subject. In the past five years, cooperating with Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, the department has been exploring the "2 +2" international cooperative cultivating mode .Until now, 9 students were sent to study in Canada and 5 of them have graduated. Preliminary exploration has achieved much significant results. Now this model has been extended to other departments and other schools in JiangsuUniversity.
Employment
Since the establishment, the department has trained more than 200 undergraduate and 35 graduate students, and the average employment rate reach about 95% or more. The graduate students are mainly engaged in the optical system design, solar energy, optoelectronic devices, optical communications and other high-tech companies or research institutes.
