On 13th June, the School of Mechanical Engineering held the Aesthetic Education Forum--analysis of aesthetic features in news writing in the lecture hall on the 7th floor of the Mechanical Building. The activity invited Cheng Chen, Deputy Director of the Editorial Department of School Newspaper, Party Committee Propaganda Department of Jiangsu University, to give a lecture, which was attended by cadres of the college. The activity was hosted by Hong Yajie, deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee of the College of Mechanics.
Cheng Chen pointed out that the content and way of news dissemination are always linked to people's aesthetic needs. The aesthetics of news writing contains such basic elements as the real beauty of the object of reporting, the profound beauty of writing, the structural beauty of the communication style, and the splendid beauty of content expression. She elaborated on how to create a more "beautiful" campus news from four aspects: focusing on the requirements of "three close to", focusing on hotspots and key points, focusing on major models and newsmakers, and focusing on daily work and routine work.
Cheng took "Jiangsu University Newspaper" as an example and introduced the columns and sections of the newspaper in recent years, presenting a diversified form of news reporting, which changed the students' stereotypical impression of the original news as a single, "running account". Afterward, teacher Cheng introduced students to news genres and news writing methods in detail with the modules of the school newspaper, such as "Stories about Me and my students" and "Classical Reading and the Fragrance of Books in the Garden". Finally, teacher Cheng took "I do something for my classmates" and "Top Ten Young Students" as examples and talked about his past experiences and inner feelings of doing news reports, which made students deeply feel the charm of news.
This forum not only enriched students' knowledge in journalism, but also laid an excellent foundation for them to plan good news reports in their subsequent practical work.
